Jesus Did It!

These past few months have been very difficult and this week I found myself in some of the darkest moments I've had for a long time. In the midst of my despair, my beautiful 8-year old came to me and said, "Mommy, I want to read something to you". She read me the story of the *The Nail (See below). I was stunned that she brought me this and still not sure if she understands exactly what it means; but SOMEONE told her to share this with me.
I called Russ at work, who was also deeply moved, and suggested we pray. So I asked her to pray with me. Together we kneeled at our Christmas tree and prayed aloud, hand-in-hand.
I returned to face my challenges that at one point were unconquerable. EVERYTHING ... and I mean EVERYTHING changed. I got on the phone and tried again ... and again ... when suddenly I was given an angel named Gail. She helped more than words can say. Gail gave me Allison, another angel, who came in on her day off to help me so I wouldn't have to wait until next week. This woman didn't know me. She had no reason to help me ... but she did.
I told Russ I was concerned that Paige saw me so upset and God knows I don't want her to grow up with that kind of memory of her mother. Russ said, "No - Paige saw her mother pray and ask for forgiveness, strength and help. That is what she will remember". Mommy didn't give up; she gave it to God and He heard. Paige was able to witness firsthand what prayer can do and how God does listen. That's the lesson I taught my daughter; but she taught me so much more.
I'm writing this in hope of reaching anyone else who is silently struggling and suffering. Those who may even be starting to believe there is no hope and no one to turn to. This year has been a difficult year for many ... some more than most. So many are struggling, suffering, sick, sad and/or feeling terribly alone, even though there are so many around them who love and care so deeply. They may be dreading what this "new" year will bring...wondering what will happen NEXT? Maybe feeling too tired to fight any more ... defeated. Maybe they're starting to wonder if they've become more of a burden to those they love...that all they've brought into this life is hardship, trauma and drama to those close to them. I'm writing this to tell you, YOU'RE WRONG. You're a gift. You're a miracle. You're light and love. You're beautiful, amazing and an inspiring. The troubles you are going through will only make you stronger and give you the gift to help others who may bear the same burdens.
An 8-year old reminded me there's always hope and always Someone to turn to. An 8-year old reminded me to drop to my knees and ask. It's been a very long time since I've been on my knees. I've prayed, yes. But, I am embarrassed and ashamed to admit that the last time I knelt to pray was after the funeral of my dear friend, Kelly, last April. Kneeling with my daughter at our beautiful Christmas tree was a very humbling experience. Kneeling with my daughter brought me and my family HOPE. I immediately began to feel better ... not so defeated anymore and as the day progressed, my burdens lessened. I still have many burdens to take care of. I'm still hurting ... I've got a very long way to go. But I have a different outlook/perspective. I had become so wrapped up in "life" and trying to control everything that I lost control and failed to remember the most important thing ... Christ is first. He'll always listen. He's always there and He reminds us daily that there is always hope. His sacrifice shows that we are worthy.
So many are facing problems that I couldn't begin to imagine in my wildest dreams...and pray that I don't ever have to. But we have to stop comparing. We must stop minimizing our pain as we feel guilty for even saying we're hurting aloud when we see others going through so much worse ... and doing it with such courage, style and grace. We compare ourselves. We think we haven't any right to complain. So we keep it inside and let it build. What a vicious circle.
We all have "crosses to bear". But we don't have to carry them alone. Our love for Him and for others will always help us through even the darkest of times. I, by no means, am claiming to be "healed" nor am I saying my troubles are gone. I'd be insane and lying if I did. But, for today, I can say I have the strength and courage to face them and fight. Today I can get out of bed and actual FEEL the warmth of the sun shining. I still hurt and it will take a long time to heal. But for TODAY, at this very moment, I have HOPE. Tomorrow, I may need you to remind me! ;-) But for today, I feel okay. As they say ..."one day at a time" or even "one step at a time".
Two days ago, my heart was so incredibly heavy that it literally hurt. Two days ago, my heart was lifted with the help of an 8 year old and the many angels around me. Literally, miracles happened these past two days. I accomplished things that even surprised myself. I have my strength back. I have my health. I need to remind myself daily of the many wondrous blessings I have. My family, my amazing husband and daughter, my friends ...YOU.
Today, I once again have HOPE. Thank you Paige, Russ, Gail, Allison, Mike and Christina. Thank you for reminding me of my blessings. Thank you for your prayers. Thank you for your love. Thank you God for all your wonderful blessings and for the greatest gift of all ... your Son, Jesus Christ.
So here's to a Happy New Year, my friends. May the new year bring us joy where there is sadness and light where there is darkness. May the economy recover to provide everyone with stable employment and sufficient income to pay their debts, put food on their table and find a place to call HOME. May your lives be filled with love and laughter and may your hearts BE lifted. May we always remember to put Christ first in our lives, our home and in our hearts. May your lives be filled with God's Richest Blessings. Here's to HOPE.
* The Nail reminds me I was condemned to die. The Nail also reminds me of my great worth. Esteemed worthy of the sacrifice of God's only Son. Jesus Christ regarded me precious enough that He endured the pain and agony of the cross and shed His blood to give me life. The Nail reminds me to take up my cross daily and follow Him. The Nail didn't hold Him to the cross; it was His love for me! The Nail reminds me I was condemned to die. The Nail also reminds me of my great worth. Dear Reader - are you at peace with God? If not, you can be. Do you know what awaits you when you die? You can have the assurance from God that heaven will be your home, if you would like to be certain. Either Jesus Christ died for your sins, or He didn't (He did!). Are you prepared to stand before God on the Judgment Day and tell Him that you didn't need the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the Cross to have your sins forgiven and get in right-standing with God? We plead with you...please don't make such a tragic mistake.
To get to know God, to be at peace with God, to have your sins forgiven, to make certain heaven will be your home for eternity, to make certain that you are in right-standing with God right now ... please click here to help you understand the importance of being reconciled to God.
