MARRIAGE AND THE MARRIAGE COVENANT - WHAT IT REALLY MEANS TO GOD

Jesus Did It!

By: Dale Rasmussen

Christians divorcing and remarrying is PANDEMIC, and God is grieved by it.  The pain divorce brings to those directly involved is humanly incomprehensible to so many.

A huge reason why so many Christians are so quickly getting into marriages they shouldn't be getting into from the very start, or so quickly getting out of because of conflict going on in the marriage, is because they have so little understanding of the importance of a covenant/vow/oath made to God.  If Christians really KNEW how serious of an offense it is to GOD to break a marriage covenant, they wouldn't be so quick to assume "God understands my needs - even if no one else does, and so I've got to do what I've got to do and get out of this marriage (then get into another)!" and so easily forgetting the covenant (minimizing its importance in other words) they made with God on their wedding day, and the serious ramifications of dissolving the marriage and then entering another ... many wouldn't be quick so get out of that marriage, but rather, dig in deeper with God to give Him time to bring resolution to that relationship to make it workable.

Breaking a covenant made to God - especially a marriage covenant - is a serious matter when done outside of clear Biblical guidelines God has given His people to break that covenant.  Satan has brainwashed so many Christians ... deluding them into believing that 1 John 1:9 covers all of their sins and that's the end of the matter.  NOT!  You don't commit fornication or adultery, (or committ murder, as an example) ... ask God's forgiveness ... and go back and keep committing the same sin again ... ask His forgiveness ... and keep going back and sinning the same sin over and over - repeating the cycle.  Repentance - 1 John 3:8 - is every bit as important to God as 1 John 1:9 is, but the devil wants us to believe it isn't!   Yes - breaking strongholds of sin is a process for many Christians, and that can take time, but that isn't the issue being addressed in this writing.  Living in sinful relationships is a primary issue.  If one doesn't believe they have committed a sin against God, as so many divorced and remarried Christians believe, "What's the need for repentance?"

Repentance is turning away from our sin, not keep giving into it over and over, and worse yet, deceiving ourselves that our sin isn't EVEN sin.

I realize the pain and anger this topic triggers in many Christians.  But Christians are called of God to diligently seek Him to know what offends Him, stop offending Him, and do our part in judging ourselves as well as helping other Christians position themselves to receive maximized blessings from God - both in this life, but more importantly, on the judgment day.  (For Christians, the judgment day will be rewards or loss of rewards for what we did - obedience or disobedience - once we became saved - born again.)

Below are scriptures that address the subjects of marriage, divorce and remarriage - covenants, vows, and oaths.  Prayerfully and expectantly trust the Lord to speak to you as you read them.  (Lord willing, video commentary will be given to help people better understand why they have been listed).
