I am a Singer/ Songwriter from Melbourne Australia who was saved by the grace of God from a life-time of Mormonism 19 years ago. I have written and recorded two albums for the Lord since my conversion; the latest one being a dedication to the persecuted church called "Church Under Fire."
I was trained to be a classical singer by my father as a young child, but later discovered that I could sing many different genres of music and so began moving into other styles of music. I sang professionally in many different settings and began to write music, but it was not until I came to know my Lord and Saviour that my songwriting took off. I finally had something of real worth to sing about and I could not turn that tap off once the Lord had turned it on! There was no end to what could be said about Him.
I served in many different capacities in the Mormon Church until I requested ex-communication on the grounds of my own apostasy. I was married at the time to a high priest and was a Temple patron also. I no longer believed the Prophet to be divinely inspired of God and I wrote a letter to the first presidency of the church saying so and requested my name be removed from their records permanently. I fell into all kinds of sin and finally decided that death was preferable to living in this world without absolute truth. I wandered in a spiritual wilderness, numb from the realisation that I had left the one thing that had always guided my values for living. The God of the Bible turned up a few months shy of my 30th birthday and He has kept me ever since. My life has been a very painful and complicated one, but Christ has never forsaken me!
I was a natural missionary for the Mormon church because I truly believed it was God's truth. I was sold on it and so I had an intense desire to share it with others. I believed my eternal welfare rested solely on it's version of the gospel and therefore felt compelled to share it with everyone I could. I was known as the "missionary."
After leaving Mormonism and I TRULY came to know the Lord Jesus on a personal level, I began evangelising everyone I knew. I had an overwhelming desire to share the Gospel of Christ and it possessed me. It was as natural as breathing to me. I ached to share Christ and eagerly and willfully did so. I drove the congregation in my conservative, middle class, Baptist church mad. They were so mad at this young ex-Mormon girl, they asked the Pastor to shut me up! I could see their faces from the lectern and I knew what they were thinking. I grieved in those early years that there were so few who had any desire to share the Gospel with unbelievers. I brought so many of my unsaved friends to church in those early years. The Lord even led me to start an evangelism club in that church which ran monthly in an upstairs room of the church. I called it the "Upper Club." We had all kinds of artists and speakers in the year I ran it, including a Jewish Rabbi, who had come to faith in Yeshua. Some of the members complained about the Star of David on the banner which was above the statement our Lord made about Himself being the light of the world. I politely explained to one brother that Jesus was a Jew. He tried not to choke on his cup of tea.
Recently, my husband and I were inducted into membership of a small Nazarene congregation and we have been asked to consider serving in certain positions in the church. Neither my husband nor I feel the suggestions made by our Pastor even remotely equate with our gifts or inner call. I have a passionate heart for the persecuted, for Jewish evangelism, for discernment ministry, and for seeing the body of Christ actually doing the work of sharing Christ's Gospel. I also use my music as a platform to speak about the suffering body. All profits from sales go to the persecuted.
My husband has been a believer for about 10 years but I really don't think he has ever found his true calling in the body of Christ. He is a good musician. He sells piano's as his full time occupation. He has written some songs for the Lord himself and featured as the drummer on my recent album for the persecuted. We have a direct ministry to the believers in the brick kilns of Pakistan through a Pastor and his team.
The word "Evangelism" has been running through my head since yesterday morning and tonight I came across this article which really excited me spiritually and rang all the right bells in me. I found myself giving it a hearty Amen! I realise now that I am the "in-house evangelist" in my little church. I've been that in every church I've been in since my conversion. However, until I read this wonderful article, I did not know that this particular call had a name or how I could use it in the body. I believe that God put that anointing on me as a little child because I was door knocking in my local neighbourhood at the age of 8 as a Mormon kid; completely of my own volition. If I can do that for a false gospel, what could God use me for now that I have His truth, which is Christ!
I love preaching the Gospel! I guess as an ex-cultist, I have the advantage of knowing what a false gospel looks like! Even after all these years, the excitement of sharing Christ and seeing someone coming slowly to life is overwhelming to me! I am currently sharing Christ through my albums, cards and texts with an Iranian dry cleaner. The Lord shone a light over his head several months ago and simply instructed me to open my mouth. When I finally obeyed that prompting and left this man with my albums and a card outlining what Christ had done in saving me, I was astonished at the response I received. He has now requested to speak more about the Lord as he has many questions. He plays the albums everyday, which are filled with scripture(PTL), and he told me last week of the overwhelming affect they have had on him.
I am so glad I found this article. Thank you and may God bless you abundantly!!!!
