Jesus Did It!

I felt so lonely and unimportant in "prison" - like no one cared - and you
encouraged me - right?
The feeling like "no one cares about what I'm dealing with in life" is a form of pain that can make us seriously want to quit living. It is probably the greatest reason why God wants us to work diligently at being encouragers to others:
Therefore encourage one
another and build each other up... (1 Thessalonians 5:11
We all need encouragement. Probably the best way to get encouragement is to make it our daily priority to be in tune with God to show us ways to encourage others. Let’s zero in closer on what God has to say about the importance of making ourselves more fruitful God-pleasing encouragers:
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. (Hebrews 10:24-25 NIV)
Having an informal “bible study” can be precious and eternally fruitful. Having an informal “prayer meeting” can be precious and eternally fruitful. Having an informal “encouragement celebration” can keep people coming back to your “bible study” and/or “prayer meeting” like little else can. People can study their bible and pray without being around other people. It’s a lot more difficult for them to find encouragement by themselves. And for CERTAIN it’s virtually impossible for God to use you to encourage someone else if you are too busy to give any quality listening time to others.
Perhaps with a new set of glasses, let’s ponder a bit more deeply what God is communicating to us when He said as is recorded in Matthew 25:36 NIV:
I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.
In all three categories of this scripture passage, we can see ENCOURAGEMENT clearly, can’t we? Especially in the last two categories. Of course other important things can be said about these three general categories, but “being an encouragement to others in their difficult times of discouragement - letting them know that you care” should become very apparent to us.
As of this writing, my dear wife Kathleen and I have been asked of God to avail ourselves to minister to brothers in prison - for over 15 years now. In the prison setting, she and I have looked at the discouragement of those hurting souls and at times we’ve left prison questioning just how effective we were in imparting encouragement to many of them. Thank GOD for the Holy Spirit! Only HE can bring life-changing comfort – encouragement - to those who are sinking in the quicksand of discouragement, and without the confidence we KNOW we have in Him to meet their deepest needs…we most likely would talk ourselves out of ever going back in the prison setting. Yet we’ve heard so many times from individual brothers in that setting:
“It isn’t so much what you sang or ministered on that blessed me the most: It was the fact that you care enough to just show up, month after month. Your being faithful in this respect ministers encouragement to us far more than you could ever know.”
Heavy duty stuff, dear reader. Humbling: Yes! All glory to God? Yes - Yes!
To the sick person in the "hospital" – you may not have the faith to see God heal that person, but your just showing up to make the statement: "I care," can bring deliverance of discouragement to that person in a way that only eternity will be able to measure.
Your old worn out "clothing" that you give away to someone more in need of it may seem like a small matter (the "covering" of encouragement?) – but when a person was so discouraged from having little or no "clothing," especially if they don’t have enough clothing to keep warm and you gave them some clothing to help with that challenge…just remember: God feels the warmth you provided that person just as much as the person does you gave the clothing to, and that is something God will NOT forget. Ohhhhh…He has promised He not only forgives and somehow purposefully chooses to forget our sins when we confess them to Him and ask forgiveness of them, but be assured…He DOESN’T forget every bit of encouragement you give to another because you sense the Holy Spirit is so pleased every time you do so, by His unction.
Those in “prison”? Go to the average food store or market place. Every person you meet will more than likely be battling discouraging issues of some sort that they are having to deal with. Sure, some are minor and they don’t need to be talked about openly. But some are so painful that the one battling with them may well be crying out from the depths of their being for someone they can open up to about them…just for a little encouragement that another human on earth cares they are hurting.
Yet it is so easy to go to the market place, buy what you need, and beat feet home to get on with your life, not caring to speak to a soul while shopping. I’m as guilty as the next. I realize one has to work hard at giving time to others in the busy world many people live in.
Every time we go out of our way to be a vessel of encouragement to another… we are honoring God, and God isn't going to let it go unnoticed on Reward Day for believers in Christ Jesus.
If you are in need of encouragement, what are you doing to go out of your way to find out what is going on in the life of OTHERS, and looking for ways you can encourage THEM when they are dealing with painful situations?
Give, and it shall be given unto you (Luke 6:38). I know this can really sting, but if you find yourself crying out for a little encouragement...do an honest evaluation of how often you go out of your way to be a vessel of encouragement the Holy Spirit can use to minister encouragement to others.
Letting others know in a humble and gentle way that you are praying for them when they are battling pain can be the most effective means of bringing encouragement to others there is.
All of us can pray for another. The real truth of the matter is: WILL we? The devil wants us believing our prayers don't matter, so why bother, we so often conclude. What a LIE!
Be encouraged to pay close attention to the wording of the following scripture passage found in James 5:16: Pray for one another, that you might be healed. Healed from discouragement?
In terms of coming to the
following conclusion about our praying: "What do MY
prayers matter?" - Scripture decrees:
And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. (Col. 3:23-24)
immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is
not in vain the Lord. (1 Cor. 15:58)
If praying unselfish prayers for the discouraged - the needy - isn't a form of "abounding in the work of the Lord", I have a lot yet to learn.
The ministry of encouragement is so vitally important. Lord - help us to become more diligent as each day passes in ministering encouragement to others - especially to those who need it the most.

A Special Message: http://www.precious-testimonies.com/Exhortations/f-j/HelpingShareTheMessageOfTheCross.htm
Dear Reader - are you at peace with God? If not, you can be. Do you know what awaits you when you die? You can have the assurance from God that heaven will be your home, if you would like to be certain. Either Jesus Christ died for your sins, or He didn't (He did!). Are you prepared to stand before God on the Judgment Day and tell Him that you didn't need the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the Cross to have your sins forgiven and get in right-standing with God? We plead with you...please don't make such a tragic mistake.
To get to know God, to be at peace with God, to have your sins forgiven, to make certain heaven will be your home for eternity, to make certain that you are in right-standing with God right now ... please click here to help you understand the importance of being reconciled to God. What you do about being reconciled to God will determine where you will spend eternity, precious one. Your decision to be reconciled to God is the most important decision you'll ever make in this life, because in Christ, it is impossible to put a value on the worth of your soul in light of eternity.
