ONCE SAVED - ALWAYS SAVED?
(Not If You Remain A CINO)

But be doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves - James 1:22

By: Norm Rasmussen

EVERYONE needs to realize that "Easy Believism" with the head yet without AN INTIMATE LOVE RELATIONSHIP WITH THE HEART WITH OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST does NOT assure one of getting into heaven.  And neither does it mean that simply praying "The sinners prayer" secures heaven for anyone either who continues to afterwards live indefinitely in sin HOPING that God will show mercy to them when they die.  Yes - John 1:9 assures believers there is forgiveness for sinning, but the sobering warning of 1 John 3:9 and Hebrews 12:1 had BETTER be continually sandwiched with 1 John 1:9 in our head and heart if we are WISE!

God gives people who want to please Him with all their being the Holy Spirit to empower them to help them STOP SINNING; not continuing in it as though it's no big thing with God.  This is the NORMAL flow of the Holy Spirit in a true Christian's life -- who has TRULY purposed to be FULLY spiritually born again, as John 3 says we are to be.

Yet multitudes of preachers - teachers are NOT teaching this anymore to the masses.  [None of us Christians will reach a state of sinless perfection in this life indefinitely, but God sure WANTS us continually trying to attain it without letting condemnation devour us when we give into temptation.]  Remember, dear reader:  God clearly tells us in the New Testament that we are to do everything in our ability - working with the Holy Spirit of course - to OBEY ALL His New Testament  commandments (correctly interpreted - wisely applied) -- not living our lives as though we can pick and choose which we want to obey in God's New Covenant Word and others we make continual excuses for in breaking them -- disobeying them).

Now ... Bible teachers preaching - teaching "Once Saved - Always Saved" (Meaning: One cannot lose their salvation, which Revelation 3:5 clearly implies one CAN lose it) are going to pay DEARLY for that deceptive teaching when they stand before God and give an account to Him as to what they erroneously taught.  James 3:1 clearly tells Christian teachers that.  The dogmatic "Once Saved - Always Saved" teaching is probably helping lead more lukewarm/half-hearted "Christians" ultimately to hell than any other demonic teaching being spewed out these days.  For with it comes the "Easy Believism" mentality creating little more than CINO's (Christians In Name Only) and diminishing how much God hates Christians continuing to sin as though it is some small matter.  Sin is NO SMALL MATTER to the One who took our punishment for our sins on the Cross.  It cost Him His LIFE.

True Christians have what no one else HAS on this planet: The Holy Spirit. Jesus doesn't call Him "The HELPER" for nothing. That means true Christians have NO EXCUSE to keep sinning the same sin over and over; indefinitely without concern for what God thinks of it.  Conclusion?  True Christians grieve when they commit sin.  CINO's aren't bothered a bit by it, at least for very long.

Many Christians thinking that practicing same-sex relationships with God is acceptable to Him have their heart's (spirit) so hardened they don't even RECOGNIZE sin while they are ENGAGED in it.  [Remember: Temptation is NOT a sin]. That is WHY Satan pushes same-sex relationships so hard, by the way.  It deceives people in believing sin isn't REALLY sin, and that is an INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS place to be with the Judge of the universe.

So does God's mercy now nullify God's view on human relationships back at the time this was decreed by Him?:  Leviticus 20  Here would be my answer to the question:  "I CHANGE NOT".

God hated sin from the moment Adam and Eve gave place to it.  God made provision for our FORGIVENESS of sin through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ so we could be made right with Him at the Judgment Day ... but God's provision for forgiveness of our sin did NOTHING to change His mind about how intensely He hates our sin both now and for eternity.  Humanly speaking ... we have mercy and grace for our rebellious children or spouse to a DEGREE.  But if a child or spouse keeps disobeying us over and over and riding on our mercy and grace and forgiveness ... things are bound to change, aren't they?

My point?  God rewards obedient children.  Parents reward obedient children.  Who of us don't want God's maximized favor starting now and lasting for all eternity?  Let us wisely identify sins by the guidelines of God's Word and PUT TO DEATH those besetting sins in our life, as Hebrews 12:1 admonishes the WISE to do -- not burying our heads' in the demonic sand and trying to somehow justify them so we can keep doing them when it seems convenient, and worse yet, believing Satan's ultimate lie that sin isn't sin.

God has a lot of mercy for people who have believed Satan's lies yet show a willingness to God to be corrected in their deception, and demonstrate to Him a willingness to change their belief/s.  This is the type of humility God is looking for in each of us.

HEALTHY fear of God is the wisest place a Christian can be in this life, as they daily move ever closer to eternity.  A truly born again Christian never FEARS they can "lose their salvation."  They love Jesus so much and want so much to please Him that they don't even have time to think about such nonsense!   THAT is the peace that surpasses all human understanding Jesus promises to give those who are truly His.  That is the "security" God wants His people having.

It has been my experience that there is very little else more volatile in the Body of Christ than this issue of "Once Saved - Always Saved."  Those who firmly adhere to it are more angered toward someone like me who takes the position I take than just about any other doctrinal position in Christendom.  Guess we'll find out who was hearing from God clearly on this issue and who wasn't come Reward/Loss Of Reward Day - reckoned?

Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:

And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.  (Matthew 7:22-25 KJV)

We enter the free gift of Salvation with Jesus Christ by asking and trusting. Asking for His forgiveness then trusting that Jesus Christ paid full penalty for our past, present and future sins on the cross. After confessing Him as one's Savior and Lord, we demonstrate our sincerely and appreciation and LOVE to God for saving us from the penalty for all our sins against Him by our FORSAKING of sin and OBEDIENCE to His commands of righteousness. This can be a lifelong process for some with many setbacks that not always lives up to hopes and expectations.  Yet we must always remember we are not saved by our obeying - keeping commands.  We are saved alone by our TRUSTING and ON-GOING TRUSTING in what Jesus Christ accomplished for us on the Cross.

We remain secure in our Salvation by our on-going trusting until our heart stops beating.  Again - trusting that His death, burial and resurrection was totally sufficient to save us, and keeping us saved.  Yet living in on-going sin and refusing to believe it is sin -- hoping God will overlook our disobedience, or worse yet ... not caring what God thinks about it -- is a very dangerous place to be with God; don't ever forget that.

Here is a tip that has worked for many seeking to overcome sin in their life.  The quality of love God wants us having for Him is not founded in "Have To" or "Supposed To."  It is founded in "Get To."  Satan is so subtle in trying to trap Christians into having a mindset of "Have To" or "Supposed To" in their relationship with the Lord in this arena of obedience to Him.  God wants His disciples developing and maintaining an attitude of "GET TO!".  This is the quality of love God the Father desires from followers of Jesus Christ.  In other words, "I don't HAVE to stop sinning; I GET to."

"Get to" mindset makes demons screech in anguish.  It dethrones their stronghold in us in this arena of obedience to our Lord like little else does.  Want to learn a wise way in how to "resist the devil and he will flee from you"? (See: James 4:7)  Love God because you WANT to -- you GET to ... not because you HAVE to and/or are EXPECTED to. (Here's a writing that might help somone get a clearer understanding of this very important matter:  http://www.precious-testimonies.com/MEncouragerArchives/HaveToOrGetToChristianity.htm)

You may have never given it much thought, but I personally don't believe God loves ANYONE because He "Has" to.  I believe He loves us because He "GETS" to.  Who of us adults wants to marry someone because we "have" to and/or are "expected" to?  The best possible experience in marriage is marrying someone because we "want" to ... because we "GET" to. When two people enter into marriage with that mindset and trust God to help them experience the very best marriage possible ... God will keep reminding them that to HAVE the best marriage is to constantly strive to BE the best marriage partner your spouse could ever want.  To be that kind of spouse, it takes hard work, doesn't it?

Saying it a little differently: Having a fulfilling marriage isn't just finding the right partner -- it is BEING the right partner.

(And Additional Important Note: NEVER let the devil try to convince you you were never saved, or have lost your salvation, because you have sinned ... and maybe even turned your back on Jesus Christ for a season because of anger and/or disappointment with Him.  As long as you continue to confess and believe that Jesus Christ paid full penalty for ALL your past, present and future sins ... you can remain SECURE in your salvation. Yet expect discipline (chastisement) from Him if you continue to keep sinning to HELP MOTIVATE you to STOP sinning.

(Nevertheless ... if you remain angry at God indefinitely ... most likely because you believe "He let you down", you run the risk of God letting your heart grow more and more hardened against Him and Truth.  If that happens, THAT is not a secure place to be with Him should your heart stop beating in that dangerous spiritual condition!)

In conclusion: God isn't looking for CINO's.  He's looking for appreciative OBEDIENT LOVERS: ABAWOL's -- Appreciative Born Again Wise Obedient Lovers.
